Nick is an enthusiastic and dedicated biologist and tries to make his contribution for a better and greener European future by educating youth, exchanging knowledge with experts, and involving interested people.

Nick, what is your personal view of Europe?

I see Europe as a very valuable example of international cooperation for many challenges that humans nowadays face. Topics like economic crises, terrorism, refugees, climate change mitigation, and nature conservation, have cross-border impacts and require cross-border collaborations. Nevertheless, every country in Europe is respected for its own identity and uniqueness, which sometimes makes the decision-making process more difficult than it should. Despite this, I am optimistic about the future of Europe.

In your opinion, what does Europe mean for your home country, the Netherlands?

The Netherlands is a country where trade plays an important role. As it is a rather small country, it depended on others to ensure sufficient resources for its inhabitant. Europe made it possible to strengthen relations between the Netherlands and other countries for import and export. Europe thus means a lot to the Netherlands!

Is there anything else you want to say about Europe?

The open border allows us to travel easily between countries, a great chance to explore other countries, cultures, and nature. It is still surprising how diverse Europe can be. I can recommend everybody to make use of that opportunity!
