Project No.: 2018 – BRH – 001
If a child is terminally ill, normal family life is impossible. In addition to the great emotional stress many efforts determine the days of these families. Everything has to be coordinated and organized for the permanent care of the child. The focus is on the little patient 24 hours a day. Is he getting enough air? Does the feeding tube sit properly? Did he get all the important medications?
There is hardly any time out for the exhausted parents. Own needs are almost always put back.
One of these few and valuable time-outs offers the outpatient service of the children’s hospice bear heart Wiesbaden. Once a month, the parents, who are accompanied by Bärenherz as an outpatient, bring their severely ill children to the Bärenherz-Home. Here they are received and cared heart-warmingly. The next four hours on this Friday afternoon, parents can use freely and only for themselves. This is a great relief from the efforts of caring for your own child. A precious gift!
In the meantime, the staff of the outpatient service, volunteers and pediatric nurses take care of the often severely disabled children. Everyone will be given a wonderful afternoon, individually and regarding their physical possibilities. Highlight are the two therapy dogs Emma & Sissi, who give peace and relaxation together with their owner Ivana. There is a lot of cuddling, laughing and singing with music therapist Heidi. Everyone agrees: The free-day is a happy day.
