Conservation workshop for Lynx and Golden Jackal populations at the Romanian Serbian border

Project No.: 2018 – EWS – 002

What do the lynx and the golden jackal have in common? They are both part of Europe’s valuable wildlife, and need international protection if we want to keep the species alive.

The lynx is one of the most mysterious animals in Europe. It often lives unnoticed for years as a ghost in the forests. Yet, the lynx populations are heavily threatened. Many lynxes die each year from illegal hunting, poisoning and trapping.

A lot of people do not know the golden jackal very well. It is the bigger brother of the fox, but smaller than the wolf. Golden jackals came from Africa and made their way into Europe. As a relative new species, there is not much knowledge on the populations and distribution of the golden jackal.

We do know that we can find populations of lynx and golden jackal right at the border of Romania and Serbia. However, there is only very limited transboundary cooperation to protect and conserve these magnificent species. The European Wilderness Society wants to organize a transboundary workshop for Romanian and Serbian nature conservationists, communities, and stakeholder to support collaboration, knowledge exchange and conservation management.

Donate to this project, and you will help to protect the lynx and golden jackal populations in Romania and Serbia. Without your help, they might disappear within the next 10 years, to never return again.
